Medicine is the science and practice of the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery are the two first professional degrees in medicine and surgery awarded upon graduation from medical school by universities in countries. Medical colleges in India, accredited by the Medical Council of India, title the degrees as MBBS. A medical college offers graduate degree Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS).
The MBBS course starts with the basic pre and para-clinical subjects such as biochemistry, physiology, anatomy, microbiology, pathology and pharmacology. The students simultaneously obtain hands-on training in the wards and out-patient departments, where they interact with real patients for five years. The curriculum aims to inculcate standard protocols of history taking, examination, differential diagnosis and complete patient Management. The student is taught to determine what investigations will be useful for a patient and what are the best treatment options. The curriculum also contains a thorough practical knowledge and practice of performing standard clinical procedures. The course also contains a 12-month-long internship, in which an intern is rotated across various specialties. Besides standard clinical care, one also gets a thorough experience of ward management, staff management, and thorough counselling skills. The Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Tamil Nadu will announce for Tamil Nadu MBBS admission by the second week June of every year (tentatively) for the 85% state quota seats i.e., for 3650 medical seats and 1201 dental seats in the government as well as private colleges of Tamilnadu. The application forms for Tamil Nadu MBBS admission will be released online and offline.
Candidates possessing a valid NEET-UG score are eligible for applying for the counselling. The filled-in application form should reach the Directorate of Medical Admission by third week of June. Candidates will be admitted on the basis of their NEET score to their preferred college (based on the availability of the seats during counselling).

Candidates applying to Tamil Nadu MBBS BDS admission must be Indian citizens (including OCI)M
Candidates must be at least 17 years of age.
The age of the candidates must not exceed 25 years.
Candidates need to pass all the subjects of the qualifying exam of the Higher Secondary Certificate Examination (Academic) with minimum eligible marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology conducted by Tamil Nadu State Board/any other equivalent board in only one attempt.
Candidates must have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology and English as subjects. They also must have passed in the above-mentioned subjects individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks (SC/ST-40%, SC-PH/ST-PH/OBC-PH/GEN-PH-45%) in aggregate at the exam in order to be eligible for Tamil Nadu MBBS admission.
Candidates applying for admission to Tamil Nadu MBBS seats must be domicile of Tamil Nadu.
Candidates who have studied from Class 8 to 12 in schools located in Tamil Nadu do not need to submit the domicile certificate while, the candidates who have studied class 8 to 12 partly or completely outside Tamil Nadu, have to produce the same.
The merit list for Tamil Nadu MBBS BDS admission will be tentatively released in the third week of June. The Tamil Nadu MBBS BDS merit list will be prepared on the basis of the candidates’ NEET UG score. All the candidates who have attended the document verification session post the process of filling up of application form for Tamil Nadu MBBS will be included in the merit list.
The Tamil Nadu MBBS BDS merit list will be released online. The merit list will include details such as the candidate’s names, category, admission number, NEET marks, state rank and registration number. Candidates whose names will be included in the merit list of Tamil Nadu MBBS BDS admission will be able to participate in the online choice filling and subsequent counselling processes.
The Tamilnadu government follows 69% reservation rule for student’s admissions in Medical/Engineering colleges and the details are listed below:

Counselling for Tamil Nadu MBBS BDS will be tentatively held in the last week of June. Tamil Nadu MBBS BDS counselling will be on a merit-cum-preference basis. The mode of Tamil Nadu MBBS BDS counselling will be offline. Candidates will have to undergo online choice filling for Tamil Nadu MBBS BDS admission prior to the process of counselling.
Candidates can download their call letters before appearing for the counselling at the designated centres. The call letters can be downloaded from the official link of the Tamil Nadu MBBS BDS admission. The candidates attending the counselling for Tamil Nadu MBBS BDS must carry the call letters to their designated counselling centres and allotted colleges for verification purposes.
